  2020 Calendar of Events 

Following is a list of scheduled events in all of 2020 which are organized by the BC clubs. In addition, most clubs also have group walks of their Permanent Trails at least once a year at weekends and often have mid-week group PT walks. To find out more about such walks, please contact the club. 

Registration for Scheduled Events commences 1/2 hour before the stated time unless indicated otherwise.

Notice to ALL walkers doing CVF walks in ANY part of Canada


The Canadian Volkssport Federation will not accept liability for medical expenses due to accident while doing any of our sponsored walks. The CVF HIGHLY recommends that Canadians and non-Canadians have proper and adequate medical insurance when they do a walk out of their home province, or arrive from another country.

INFORMATION: Most of the walk will be on a 4k jetty along the mouth of the Fraser River. Sea birds are visible throughout the area as well as a view of the Georgia Straight south & west of Vancouver.

DIRECTIONS TO START: From the intersection of Prospect Lake Rd & Burnside Rd W, go north on Prospect Lake Rd for 1.2k; then Left on Munn Rd for 7k. Mt Work Reg Park parking lot (large sign at the driveway entrance) is on the Right, just past Fork Lake Rd.
INFORMATION: Forest paths, rocky & rooty underfoot in some places, in other places a bridle path or a Forest Service rd. Considerable ups & downs with overall elevation gain of about 400 m, depending on the option chosen.

INFORMATION: All routes are on forested trails. The 10k route includes a steep climb to the top of Mt Doug for the most fabulous views in all of Victoria.

INFORMATION: Simon Fraser University is an interesting campus to explore with its Arthur Erickson (Famous Canadian) buildings & the new sustainable residential community of UniverCity. The route will also go past Burnaby’s Great Trail Pavilion.

DIRECTIONS TO START: From downtown Victoria, take the Trans-Canada Hwy #1 to Exit 14 (Langford/Highlands), turn Right on Millstream Rd. Follow Millstream Rd through the Highlands neighbourhood for about 6k; turn Left onto Caleb Pike Rd at signs to Gowlland Tod Prov. Park. Drive to the parking lot at the end of the road.
INFORMATION: All distance options follow the Ridge trail up from the parking lot, through a mix of woodland & rougher ground. It has several ups & downs, with beautiful water views of Finlayson Arm at several points. A 2k option continues up a steeper section to the summit of Jocelyn Hill. An additional 2k option is on lower trails. Walkers should bring water & a snack to hydrate & enjoy the views before returning down the hill. Hiking poles advised for those who use them.

PROGRAMS: BoardwalksDIRECTIONS TO START: Take Hwy #19 (the Nanaimo Parkway) to Jinglepot Rd. Going north, turn Right onto Jinglepot Rd; Going south turn Left onto Jinglepot Rd. Where Jinglepot Rd veers left, keep Right onto Third St. Entrance to the NAC (Nanaimo Aquatic Centre) is on the Right just past the gravel parking lot for Serauxmen Stadium & before the light @ Wakesiah Ave. Parking is availble in front & on the other side of the Aquatic Centre or across the street at the Nanaimo Ice Centre.
INFORMATION: The 6k (1B) goes around Buttertubs Marsh & follows the The Great Trail/Parkway Trail & local streets. The 10 & 12k (2B) continue on through to Colliery Dam Park & Vancouver Island University.  The 12k also goes around the Yew Loop Trail in Morrell Sanctuary. The walks are on a combination of paved paths & well-groomed dirt trails.

DIRECTIONS TO START: The start/finish of this walk is at the parking lot shared by the Layritz Park sports fields & the Vancouver Island Technology Park. Turn off West Saanich Rd onto Markham St (signed to Vancouver Island Technology Park). After 1.0k when Markham St turns Right, proceed straight ahead into the Tech Park parking lot. Registration will be near the far corner of the parking lot. Parking is free.
INFORMATION: Walk through several parks connected by country roads of Saanich.

DIRECTIONS TO START: From Victoria: Turn west (Left) off the Trans-Canada Hwy #1 onto Hutchinson Rd. Cross over Cobble Hill Rd onto Empress Ave. After crossing over railroad tracks turn Right into the parking lot.
INFORMATION: Explore the trails of this beautiful recreation area. The trails of Quarry Nature Park & the huge Cobble Hill Mountain Rec Area lead through a variety of forest ecosystems & feature several viewpoints that collectively offer a 360 degree view of the surrounding area.
